Dominic Barton
Speaker at the St. Gallen Symposium
Before assuming his role as Chair of the Board at Rio Tinto in 2022, Dominic Barton served as the Ambassador of Canada to the People’s Republic of China from 2019 to 2021. With his vast experience in Asia, he represented Canadian interests and fostered dialogue with Canada’s second-largest trade partner. From 2009 to 2018, Mr Barton held the position of Global Managing Director at McKinsey & Company. Before becoming Global Managing Partner, he served as McKinsey’s Chairman in Asia. Additionally, Mr Barton is an Adjunct Professor at Tsinghua University in China, and since 2019, he serves as one of three Conference Chairpersons of the St. Gallen Symposium. He holds a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of British Columbia and a master's degree in economics from Oxford University, where he studied as a Rhodes Scholar.
