Bineta Diop

Bineta Diop is the Founder and President of Femmes Africa Solidarité, an international NGO dedicated to promoting peace, security, and development in Africa, and a Member of the Board of the Hunger Project. She is also the Co-Convener of the African Women Leaders Network (AWLN), a women-led network in 39 African countries formed in 2017 to advance the inclusion of women in leadership and decision-making processes. Since 2014, she has served as the Special Envoy of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission on Women, Peace and Security. Ms. Diop has led numerous peace-building programmes to enhance women’s participation in peace processes. She played an instrumental role in achieving gender parity within the African Union Commission in 2003, the adoption of the Solemn Declaration on Gender Equality in Africa (2004), and the adoption of the Protocol to the African Charter on Human and People’s Rights on the Rights of Women in Africa (2003) by the African Union. Ms. Diop studied Management in Paris, France and Public Relations and Communication in Lausanne, Switzerland. She received an Honorary Doctorate from the United Nations-mandated University for Peace in 2012 and an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Middlesex in London, UK, in 2014.
