Piyush Goyal

Speaker at the St. Gallen Symposium

Minister Piyush Goyal is India’s Minister of Commerce and Industry and Member of Parliament for North Mumbai, currently serving as the longest-serving Commerce Minister in the country’s history. In this role, he oversees India’s trade policy and international economic partnerships, driving record export growth and concluding major free trade agreements with key global partners. Over the course of his career, he has held several senior cabinet positions, including Minister of Railways, Power, Coal, and New & Renewable Energy, as well as Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution and Textiles. He also served as Leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha and has played a central role in shaping India’s economic and industrial policy. Before entering government, Minister Goyal built a successful career as an investment banker. His tenure has been marked by large-scale policy initiatives, including the expansion of global trade agreements, the implementation of Production Linked Incentive schemes, and major infrastructure and energy reforms. He was awarded the Carnot Prize in 2018 for his contributions to energy policy. Minister Goyal is a qualified Chartered Accountant and holds a law degree from the Government Law College, Mumbai.
