Georg Maier

Georg Maier has served as Minister for Internal Affairs and Municipalities of the Thuringia since August 2017. In this role, he oversees internal security, municipal affairs, and civil protection, and currently chairs the Conference of Interior Ministers while serving as a member of key federal committees. Prior to this appointment, he was State Secretary in the Thuringian Ministry of Economy, Science, and Digital Society. Earlier in his career, he held various senior positions at KfW Banking Group, ultimately becoming Head of Start-up and SME Financing. Beyond his governmental functions, he has been a member of the SPD since 2009 and is active within party and policy advisory bodies. Georg Maier holds a degree in Business Administration from universities in Mannheim and St. Gallen and completed the Management Program at Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
