Prof. Simon Evenett

Prof. Simon J. Evenett is Professor of Geopolitics and Strategy at IMD and Co-Chair of the World Economic Forum’s Global Future Council on Trade and Investment. Prior to joining IMD in 2024, he served as Professor of International Trade and Economic Development at the University of St.Gallen from 2011. An internationally recognized expert on trade, investment, and geopolitical dynamics, Prof. Evenett has developed several policy intelligence initiatives that provide real-time insights into global legal, policy, and regulatory developments. In 2023, he launched the Crux of Capitalism initiative, offering valuable insights into the performance of firms and sectors in 21 major economies. In 2020, he co-founded the St. Gallen Endowment for Prosperity Through Trade (SGEPT) in collaboration with the Max Schmidheiny Foundation and the University of St.Gallen. SGEPT currently hosts three leading independent commercial policy monitoring initiatives: the Global Trade Alert, a key resource for assessing trade tensions; the New Industrial Policy Observatory; and the Digital Policy Alert. He has also taught at the University of Oxford and served twice as a World Bank official. Prof. Evenett holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Cambridge and a PhD from Yale University, and he has authored over 200 publications for academic, policy, and business audiences.
