Leon Schreiber

Speaker at the St. Gallen Symposium

Leon Schreiber has served as Minister of Home Affairs since 2024 and has been a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa for the Democratic Alliance (DA) since May 2019. Prior to his cabinet appointment, he was the Shadow Minister of Public Service and Administration, where he gained prominence for leading a campaign against cadre deployment in the national government. In addition to his governmental roles, he is a well-known advocate for Afrikaans language rights at Stellenbosch University. Mr. Schreiber is also no stranger to the St. Gallen Symposium, having attended in 2015 as a Leader of Tomorrow and a finalist in the Global Essay Competition. He holds a master’s degree in political science from Stellenbosch University and completed his PhD in political science at the Free University of Berlin.
