Mustika Wijaya
Speaker at the St. Gallen Symposium
Mustika Wijaya currently serves as the Founder & Executive Director of Solar Chapter, a position she has held since March 2017. In this role, she is dedicated to promoting sustainable community development by increasing access to water, sanitation, and education in rural communities across Indonesia. Recognizing the critical importance of these basic necessities, Mustika and her team at Solar Chapter have been working tirelessly for more than five years to address these pressing issues in the rural communities of East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. As an engineer, Mustika has developed an innovative community-owned solar pump system aimed at ensuring that all Indonesians have access to clean water. Her solution not only addresses the immediate need for clean water but also recognizes the long-term impact on women and girls in rural areas, who often bear the disproportionate responsibility of obtaining clean water. By reducing these barriers, Mustika's efforts have contributed to enhancing women's education and employment opportunities in these communities. In addition to her work with Solar Chapter, she was selected as an Obama Scholar by the Obama Foundation, where she engaged in impactful projects from August 2022 to May 2023. Furthermore, Mustika has actively participated in UNICEF's Young Changemakers initiative. Mustika Wijaya holds a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
