Prof. Mariana Valente

Mariana Valente is an Assistant Professor for International Economic Law at the University of St. Gallen and an Associate Director of InternetLab, a think tank based in São Paulo that fosters academic debate around human rights issues and internet policy. Prof. Valente’s research focuses on the intersection of law, technology, and society, particularly in regulating the digital economy and fundamental rights in the online environment (with an emphasis on gender equality). She has also studied and/or conducted research at UC Berkeley, LMU Munich, and Yale Law School. In addition to her academic work, Prof. Valente is a member of the Brazilian Senate Commission for drafting an Artificial Intelligence regulation. She is a lawyer in Brazil and holds a bachelor's degree, master's degree, and Ph.D. in Law from the University of São Paulo.
