Prof. Anette Kehnel

Speaker at the St. Gallen Symposium

Prof. Annette Kehnel is Professor of Medieval History at the University of Mannheim and currently serves as Visiting Fellow at the University of St. Gallen. In her work, she explores historical perspectives on sustainability and societal transformation, most recently in her books The Green Ages and Die Sieben Todsünden, where she reinterprets medieval concepts for contemporary global challenges. Previously, she held several academic leadership roles, including Vice President and Dean at the University of Mannheim, and conducted research at institutions such as the University of Oxford and TU Dresden. In addition, she is an author, speaker and foundation board member. Her work has gained wide recognition for connecting historical scholarship with present-day debates on sustainability and societal change. Prof. Kehnel holds a PhD in History from Trinity College Dublin and completed her studies in history and related fields at LMU Munich and the University of Freiburg.
