Major General Patrick Gauchat

Patrick Gauchat is Major General of the Swiss Armed Forces and has served as Head of Mission and Chief of Staff of the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO) since October 2021. In this role, he oversees UNTSO’s mandate to monitor ceasefires, supervise armistice agreements, and support UN peacekeeping operations across the Middle East. In December 2024, he was additionally designated Acting Head of Mission of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) in the Golan. Previously, he headed Switzerland’s delegation to the Neutral Nations Supervisory Commission on the Korean Peninsula and held senior command roles within the Swiss Army and NATO’s KFOR mission. Earlier in his career, he also worked in leadership positions at Swiss Federal Railways(CFF/SBB), alongside assignments at United Nations Headquarters and in field missions. He holds a Master of Science in Engineering from EPFL.
