Joachim Rother

Dr. Joachim Rother serves as Project Lead for Gaming and Democracy at Bertelsmann Stiftung. In this role, he explores the societal and educational potential of gaming communities, aiming to strengthen civic engagement and address challenges such as disinformation in digital spaces. Previously, he led the foundation’s Israel portfolio and worked on issues related to fake news, and served as Deputy Director of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung’s office in Jerusalem. In addition, he is a content creator under the alias “MDVAL,” connecting medieval history with gaming culture on digital platforms. He is a recipient of multiple academic scholarships, including from KAS and the German Historical Institute. Rother holds a PhD in Medieval History (Dr. phil.).
